Unit Outline:

I am going to present this project to my students by using PowerPoint. I will make my own mini project for the students that will explain the lesson.

This lesson will take a total of six days for an hour at a time and will be done within a two week time period. When all the groups have completed the project, we will have a presentation day for the groups to showcase their work.

Day 1:

Students will meet with their groups, which I have assigned, and will decide as a group on a place in the world they would like to know more about. They will need to write down the location they want to research and reasons why they want to learn more about this place and turn that into me so I can approve their location.

Day 2

and Day 3

The students will use Google Earth to locate the place and find geographical features. The students will do this individually; this will provide the opportunity for the groups to gather more information about their place. With this, I will be helping students to make sure they are staying on task, and finding the correct location. The students will use computers and the internet to explore this place and gather information about it. They will use Google to help them find information. While the students are on the computers, I will be monitoring them, making sure they are behaving, and that the websites they use are appropriate and have accurate information. I will have students take notes, as well as print out information and pictures about their place.

Day 4

And Day 5

After the information has been gathered, the students will start to make a video to present to the class sharing the information they have researched about their location. For the video, each student will take part in speaking and presenting the information they find. I will set up the video camera and monitor the use of it. I will have other groups working on different parts of the project, whether they need to get caught up, or are moving on, while I am helping groups record their video

Day 6:

They will also use images, whether it is in a collage or PowerPoint to present to the class for further information as well. These images can be ones students have previously collected in their information gathering off the internet, or from books they may have found. I will help students choose appropriate images for their presentation, and if needed, help them scan or copy their images. In their groups, students can decide how they want to present their images, whether they make a collage or use PowerPoint. They will then have to make their image presentation to present while their video is playing for the class.

Once all groups have finished their projects we will have a presentation day where each group’s videos will show and they will present their images.
